Collage Christmas - Now and Then

#christmas2023 #xmasart #cutandpaste #davidjdills Happy New Year 2024!
Here's hoping that we bring in the #newyear2024 with hope, health, and happiness along the way. Cheers, David
This #cutandpaste #collage was a fun project and like the challenge of setting a mood with colours.
Since first hearing it, I loved Nat King Cole's hit, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) and did a couple of collages dedicated to the great #natkingcole.
The collage and clipping is related only by the fact that I am old enough to remember what a good television show he had and sad that he was cancelled for racial reasons. He was a perfect host and his songs touched people through his voice and delivery.
In Scotland, bagpipes are part of the Christmas holiday season and have lifted my mood listening to Winter songs with an ensemble of musicians.
The retro #carolers express a part of my childhood since it was fun walking through neighborhoods singing popular songs of the time. A couple of my favorites were #jinglebells and Walking in a Winter Wonderland. People stopped to listen since it wasn't all about tv and social media tunes.
There are reindeer at play year round in Scotland. Although native to the area, they were reinstated when they were close to extinction. The herds are considered "free-range" because of it although are easily climatized to the area. Seeing them at play in the Cairngorms inspired the collage. "They live in The Cairngorm National Park, one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland..A reindeer's winter coat can have an incredible 2000 hairs per square inch of coat, consisting of a dense wooly undercoat and long hollow guard hairs, which keep a reindeer snug and not even feeling the cold til about -30C."
Santa wasn't having much luck trying to get his load of presents down the chimney on this occasion... "Santa Claus is said to visit all the children of the world on Christmas Eve and leave presents for them under the tree. The tradition of Santa Claus entering homes through the chimney originated in the days when most homes did not have front doors or windows on the second floor."
Good on Santa for wanting to help stray cats!
