The Return 1993

The Return composed in 1993 was seen by a million viewer when featured in HIGH TIME Magazine New York, December 1993. My original idea was to cast a large woman remenescent of the 1958 film, "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" that coincidently became a TV remake in Dec 1993. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXFW4S1ELl4 While it graphically pleasing, it was recast with dinosaurs attacking a city. My thought related to the idea of original inhabitants reclaiming land that had become a crowded landscape of structures. The story is told beginning from the bottom left with giant dino eggs in a bay as and works it's way up. The bottom left features a section of San Francisco as it reflects the place where I was born. The upper part is a collection of well known building as it is meant to be any city under attack. The central thought was to bring back the prehistoric creatures to attempt to reclaim their land corrupted by man's endeavour to over step in the name of progress. As a nature lover since childhood, I was concerned about the San Francisco bay area when new construction was dramatically altering natural landscapes that I knew growing up. Unfortunately, the population boom also impacted the air quality and hense, used automobiles and a UPS van in the collage. Working for General Motors for nine years was an education beyond what I learned during Earth Day 1970. Understanding that life styles need to be balanced with earth stewardship, I felt that the "bigwigs" needed to be chased out of town and why the luxury vehicle was placed in front of the delivery van. In the summer of 1994, my brother and I set up a booth on the corner of Haight-Asbury and it proved to be popular. Someone representing a company in the area said that they wanted to use my idea to link their San Francisco company to their San Jose business and liked my approach. Considering that I used magazines from a recycled bin as a personal effort, I was surprised by the hoopla.
In the 1990s, I felt most honour to have a collages hung in the childrens section of the Eugene Oregon public library. Caption: "Where knowledge and imagination meet - the public library"
